Day 51

What a glorious day! I worked on tanning my thighs a bit while lifeguarding another 3 hours straight. I've got to make my legs look good because I have come up with the idea to buy either a superhero speedo (if I can find one) or just get some of the superhero underwear from walmart and race in them!! Nathan and I will be doing the Warrior Dash in October so I will wear them in that race =) hahaha!

Yet another day of training the bosses' daughters. Today we went for a run and ended up running through some high grass that caused us to do some hi knees. lol. Made them run up a big hill and then we did rock jumps! After that I gave them the choice of sprinting up the dining hall hill twice and then swimming 20 down and backs in the pool, or not doing hills and just swimming 30 down and backs in the pool. They chose the just pool option. lol. So we hit the pool hard and then finished out with some hanging leg lifts off the diving board. Jokes on them though because I'm making them run the hills tomorrow still. Then we will "pepper" the volleyball. We might have to go to the community center.

We had our staff bible study tonight and I thought it was kool that we talked about one of the morning devotionals I did for my sports camp last week. And oh boy do I miss those campers!! Galilee has formed more than half of the relationships I have today and I thank God everyday for it. I am trying to use the gifts God gave me to the best of my ability to give back to camp. That's why I will be hosting two races at camp each year to raise money for camp scholarships and on my own time volunteer if I can! Go GOD!

49-50

Yesterday I began training my bosses' daughter, Taylor, for volleyball and my other bosses' daughter, Logan joined in. I took them out for about a mile run on the trails followed by "rock jumps". Rock jumps consisted of standing flat footed at the base of this tall flat rock and jumping up onto it. lol. So we did 15, 10, and then 7 rock jumps. Then we went up to the volleyball net and did "net jumps/hand slaps"... Basically a blocking drill working on your ups. We stood at the net and jumped up like we were blocking the ball 30 times, 50 times, 75, 50, and then 30 times. We finished the training with doing one sit up one push up.. two sit ups, two push ups.. three sit ups, three push ups.. all the way up to 10 of each. Good first day!!! It was dark when we got done so I walked with Logan back to her house and then ran back to the cabin using a flashlight her mother had given me... After about quarter mile the battery's were so giggled around that it couldn't keep a connection and kept shutting off on me. So I ended up running in the pitch black (no moon that night) along the old country road till i reached the back/side entrance to camp and ran the trails back to the cabin. Fun Fun. lol
Oh.. I forgot to mention all of the lovely spider webs we ran into!!.... and a great big huge one that we both saw coming but yet we still ended up running straight into it!!

Today Taylor was not feeling very good so I was not able to train her but Logan was still up for a run. So I ran out of camp using the side entrance down the old country road to her house and we went out on the trails for about a mile run rocking out to some music!! We got back to her house and finished up with another round of 1~1, 2~2, sit ups and push ups. Then I ran along the old country road out to the main entrance of camp.

Also.. While I was lifeguarding for 3 hours today I decided that on top of directing the Athletes for Christ camp next summer, I would also direct a high school running camp at Galilee!! The idea came to me and slowly grew on me each half hour as I sat up in the stand baking. I figure we can call it GODspeed Running Camp and I might get one of my best friends, Nathan Ford to co-direct it with me! It will be saweet!! Even if we only have one camper, lol! I also realized that it would be awesome to get my cross country coach from Southwest Baptist University to come out and speak at both the running and the AFC camp next summer. Love that guy!! excellent role model for a christian and a coach!

Day 41-48

Athletes for Christ!!!!

I spent the week directing a sports camp at Galilee!! This was my second year doing this and we had 16 awesome campers! Several of which were returning from last year =) It was the best week of the summer, and I already miss them all!! We played so many sports
I lost count. Basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, toy wiffle ball, quidditch, dodgeball, playing in the mudpit, etc! What a great week! I taught them about the Holy Spirit and how God breathed life into human kind in Genesis and then continued to show them time after time again the importance of the Holy Spirit through out the Bible and shared stories where it was seen. What was really neat was all of the awesome stories from their lives that they shared, gave me the chills, it rocked!

It took them a little bit but eventually I was able to get a group of kids to wake up at 6 am to go for a run =D lol. That was a great time, especially seeing their faces when I woke them up and realizing that I probably look just as confused and desiring to sleep as they do when I wake up each morning to run. I took them out on the trails.

Day 40

1 Insane Trail Run 2011
July 16th

Today was the second year hosting the 1 Insane Trail Run at Camp Galilee to raise funds for camp scholarships. This year I hosted a 5k, 10k, 15k, and 20k. The above picture has the first place trophy's for the Male and Female of each race distance. Everyone received finishers "medals'" which were cut from cedar trees at camp Galilee. It turned out to be a great run with 54 participants and raising around $1,600 for Camp Galilee!! =)

The technical tshirt you see hanging is still available for
purchase at crosscountrymissions.org to help raise money for camp!

I am blessed to share this next story! One of the runners used to work out at camp back when he was younger and he handed his life over to God right here at Camp Galilee!! So on his last lap of the race he stopped at that sacred place and had a little reminiscing moment!! Now isn't that awesome!! Amen!!

Day 6-39

I would like to start by apologizing to anyone following me!! God blessed me so greatly this summer by giving me my position back at Camp Galilee, and unfortunately as soon as I got to camp I never have sat down and blogged about my training! But as they say, better late than never!!

So where was I?.. On the Day 6 I spent the day floating on the lake before I moved into camp. The wind would slowly drift our rafts to the end of the cover requiring us to swim a good 400 meters back to the dock several times.. lol. So there was my training for that day. I will admit since I got to camp my training has gone down hill a bit but I'm picking it up a little bit better and this blog keeps my accountable!

Day 13
I remember my training for this day because I had planned on just going for a swim and then run, followed by a relaxing swim again to kool off after the heat, However I ended up swimming for about 20 minutes, biking for around an hour and then running 3 miles. I ran on the trails at camp to make sure everything was in order for the 1 Insane Trail Run I would be hosting later in the Summer. I experienced a lot of spider webs and gruesome hills =)

Day 19
This was Race Day for the QuarterMax out at Innsbrook Resort. This was a 1000 meter swim, 28 mile bike, and 6 mile run. Loads of Fun!!! I ended up placing 4th in my age division and got a huge Ultramax medal!! I'm not sure what was wrong with me during the swim, but for some reason I could not stay in a straight path at all, I remember looking up at one point and seeing my supervisor from the pool I was working at in Columbia early that summer life guarding in a kayak, I contemplated saying hi! lol.
The Bike portion started out great, pushing up the hills in the resort but eventually the course took us out away from everyone onto old country roads with very strong wind! As soon as I started the run I felt great!! But randomly my quads started to cramp (normally my gastrocnemius' cramp) I pushed through it, got as much gel and water as i could and eventually it got better!! Thank goodness!! Because I have had two races in the past where the cramp is crippled me and resulted in me walking then running till it cramped again, and then again and again in that cycle.
